I wrote this post for another personal blog I have on SparkPeople.com which is a weight loss site similar to Weight Watchers. I wrote this a month ago and wanted to transfer it over here to go along with my other posts. I do all my tumblr posts right now from my iPhone and may switch it up a bit.
I plan to post an update soon.

RUNNING, RUNNING, RUNNING
I could also title this, Walking, jogging, walking & catching my breathe. That wouldn’t have the same ring to it! GREENMAN71 asked if I had any updates last week and realized that I hadn’t blogged in a bit.
It isn’t due to a lack of activity. I’m at the halfway mark of my Couch to 5K training program. As recommended when starting the training program, they mentioned that you should sign up for a 5K ASAP in order to have a goal to look forward to. I’d actually bought the iPhone app months ago but finally decided to put it to good use.
If I hadn’t have signed up immediately, I think I may have given up around the 1st or 2nd week mark, or tried to put it off. The earlier weeks were definitely a challenge and I wondered if I could do this. Just as weight loss definitely takes some patience, the training does as well, and I’m thankful I kept with it. Things have gotten easier and I have some faith in the program. I typically do my training in the neighborhood around my house, and it’s been nice to meet new neighbors and say hi to other walkers at different fitness levels as well.
This weekend I thought a change of venue would be a nice change of pace and I found a beautiful park as a result of my search. I planned on sticking to the paved trails but I decided to take on their nature trails as well. It was fun, and best of all it was fully shaded!
It was also my first time doing a longer run since I switched from walking slowly to 5K training. I was impressed that I could for the most part keep up my pace on a longer run, with a few exceptions since jogging on a trail has some different challenges including a few physical barriers & changes in elevation.
I hope to make it out there next weekend! Although my pace isn’t where I want it to be overall, I’m happy I logged everything so I could see my progress. The Nike+ app is inspirational and easy to use, and the daily mile website is great for comparing previous runs. Best of all, it’s a cheap form of exercise and it’s been great for my weight loss efforts!
I have had this on my mind for a while now but it keeps coming back up for some reason. As any of you out there can attest to, the minute you lose enough weight for people to notice one of the very first questions asked is “How did you lose the weight?” At first I was always really excited to answer that question but as time goes on it gets a little frustrating. The answer is a lifestyle change through a change of how I eat coupled with exercise as well as more active life in general.
But nobody wants to hear that.
Yes. Patience is so key.
Here’s some discoveries I’ve made…
- If you eat well and according to what your body needs, you WILL lose weight no matter what.
- If you’re tired/unmotivated, you’re not getting enough nutrients/calories/sleep.
- If you’re not enjoying the exercise you’re doing, DO SOMETHING YOU ENJOY!…
Yep, pretty much
